Following Jon Jones’ (19-1) razor thin victory over Alexander Gustafsson (15-2, pictured) at UFC 165 this past weekend, it would appear that UFC President Dana White is open to an immediate rematch between the pair, with the company front man recently stating;

“Yeh there’s a real good possibility we could do this again.”

While Glover Texieria (22-2) had recently been slated to receive the next title shot, following his recent knockout victory of Ryan Bader (15-4), Dana White said that they would simply look at giving the talented Brazilian an alternative fight in the meantime, should they decide to do an immediate rematch between Jones and Gustafsson.

“We give Glover another fight.”

Although Dana admitted he had not given the idea much thought, until asked about an immediate rematch, he went on to suggest that it is an idea he is very much leaning towards and that the fan’s would love to see the duo go at it again, while also adding that neither Jones or Gustafsson should be opposed to an immediate return bout.

“I literally hadn’t even thought about it until you just said it. I like the idea. I think that that fight was awesome. I think this is one of those fight’s that people would love to see again. It would be hard for either one of the fighters not to think they both should rematch.”

Any announcement of an immediate rematch is likely to have wait for the time being, with Jones and Gustafsson both sporting war wounds following the five round classic and will likely require the results of the medical suspensions before anything can be confirmed. UFC officials recently shared the following picture of the pair, via Twitter, following the bout where it’s clear to see both men earned the mutual respect of one another for their part in what many are calling one of the greatest title fights in UFC history.

Should UFC officials go with a rematch and leave Glover Teixeira requiring a new fight, it’s likely that Phil Davis (12-1 (1nc)) and Gegard Mousasi (34-3-2) would be possible opponents, with the top ten competitors both currently awaiting news of their next matchups.
