A back injury has unfortunately forced Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5, pictured) out of his upcoming bout with Alexander Gustafsson (15-2), just days after the bout was first announced for London in March, 2014, according to MMAFighting.
The back injury, which “Little Nog” suffered in training, will apparently keep the Brazilian light heavyweight out of action until May, 2014.
Nogueira has suffered a number of injuries in recent years, fighting just twice over the last two and a half years. In his last outing “Little Nog” defeated Rashad Evans via unanimous decision back in February 2013 at UFC 156.
UFC officials are now actively seeking a replacement for the card, with Gustafsson set to receive another crack at the champion should he come out victorious, potentially setting up a rematch with Jon Jones (19-1), provided he also comes out on top against Glover Teixeira (22-2), with the pair set to fight in early 2014.
One man who could come into contention is Gegard Mousasi (34-3-2) who is actively seeking an opponent after returning from his own injury battle. Mousasi was originally set to face off against Gustafsson in April 2013 however Gustafsson suffered a cut in training just days before the bout and was replaced by fellow Swede Ilir Latifi (7-3, 1nc). Mousasi went on to win the contest by unanimous decision.
