UFC officials have announced the signing of former Bellator bantamweight champion and current RFA flyweight champion Zach Makovsky (16-4) ahead of UFC on Fox 9 later this month. The newly signed Makovsky will fill in on late notice as a replacement for John Dodson (15-6), who recently suffered a knee injury in training that ruled him out of his scheduled bout with Scott Jorgensen (14-7).
The thirty-one year old Makovsky goes into the bout fresh off his RFA flyweight title victory last month at RFA 11 where he won the vacant belt, defeating Matt Manzanares (6-2) via unanimous decision. Makovsky, who is known for a strong wrestling background, was hotly tipped to join up with the UFC following his strong performance and with news of Dodson’s injury it would appear that he has joined even sooner than expected.
Jorgensen, who is 3-3 in the UFC, is now set to prepare for his third different opponent for the card, after previously scheduled bouts with Ian McCall (12-4-1) and the aforementioned Dodson fell through due to injuries.
UFC on Fox 9 takes place at the Sleep Train Arena in Seattle, California on December 14th. You can check out the updated card below.
