A flyweight clash was confirmed tonight for the UFC’s return to London in March on BT Sports ‘Beyond the Octagon” show, with the UK’s Brad Pickett (23-8, pictured) set to make his flyweight debut when he takes on Ian McCall (12-4-1), who hails from California, USA.
Brad “One Punch” Pickett drops down to the flyweight division having gone 3-3 in the UFC as a bantamweight, where he was considered one of the most exciting fighters in the division, winning five ‘Of the Night’ bonuses over the course of his six bouts. Having lost out to Michael McDonald (16-2) via submission in his last outing at UFC Fight Night 26, in a bout that later was awarded the “Fight of the Night” bonus, Pickett will be hoping to have just as an exciting of a career at flyweight and, more importantly, put together a consecutive winning run that eluded him for most of his run at 135 in the UFC.
Meanwhile, Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall is also known for his exciting style, having won two “Of the Night” bonuses in his four UFC outings. In his last appearance he earned a unanimous decision victory over Iliarde Santos (27-9-1, 1nc) at UFC 163, with the pair winning the “Fight of the Night” bonus in the process.
It was also confirmed that twenty-five year old Icelandic prospect Gunnar Nelson (11-0-1) will put his undefeated record on the line, when he battles Russian sambo expert, and fellow unbeaten star, Omari Akhmedov (12-0), with the twenty-six year old Russian set to drop down to the welterweight division.
Nelson has won both of his UFC contests thus far, defeating experienced duo Damarques Johnson (16-13) and Jorge Santiago (25-12), and goes into the bout with Akhmedov riding an impressive eleven-fight winning streak, having drew in his professional debut. His opponent, Omari Akhmedov, made a successful debut at UFC Fight Night 32, knocking out Thiago Perpetuo (9-2) in the first round.
Meanwhile a third bout was added with the UK’s Danny Mitchell (14-4-1) set to make his UFC debut in the welterweight division, where he will face off against Brazilian submission ace Igor Araujo (24-6, 1nc). The twenty-seven year old Englishmen, who has won four of his last five bouts, will face a stern test for his first UFC outing, with his Brazilian opponent riding a five-fight winning streak and having began his UFC career with a unanimous decision win over Ildemar Alcantara (19-6) at UFC Fight Night 29 in October.
