UFC officials announced today that Dong Hyun Kim (18-2-1, 1nc, pictured) will take on John Hathaway (17-1) in the main event of the TUF: China Finale on March 1st, 2014. The duo are set to square off in the welterweight division with the event set to take place at the CotaiArena in Cotai, Macau.
South Korea’s Dong Hyun Kim has been with the promotion for over five years now since his arrival in 2008 and has compiled a 9-2 record with one no contest. The thirty-two year old goes into the bout riding a three-fight winning streak which includes unanimous decision victories over Paulo Thiago (15-6) and Siyar Bahadurzada (21-6-1). In his most recent outing, Kim, who sits at #12 in the UFC’s official rankings, he scored a spectacular knockout victory over Erick Silva (15-4,1nc), earning the “Knockout of the Night” award along the way, back at UFC Fight Night 29 in October.
The twenty-six year old John Hathaway has long been considered one of the more promising talent’s in the UFC’s welterweight division, however multiple injuries have curtailed his run in recent times, with his last bout taking place in September, 2012 where he earned a unanimous decision victory over John Maguire (19-6). Hathaway, who fight’s out of Brighton, England, is also riding a three-fight winning streak after earning win’s over both Kris McCray (8-5) and Pascal Krauss (11-2) prior to the bout with Maguire. Overall Hathaway holds a 7-1 record in the UFC and also holds notable victories over Diego Sanchez (24-6) and Rick Story (16-7).
The event, which is set to air live on UFC Fight Pass, will also feature the featherweight and welterweight finals of The Ultimate Fighter: China.
