It would appear that we finally know who Vitor Belfort’s (23-10) next opponent will be with Ariel Helwani confirming that the UFC are now planning to match Vitor up with Dan Henderson (29-10, pictured), in a rematch of their 2006 Pride bout.

The news follows weeks of speculation of who Vitor would fight next. ‘The Phenom’ turned down a fight with Tim Kennedy(16-4), with his wife stating that he would only fight at middleweight if a title was on the line. A bout between Vitor and Chael Sonnen (28-13-1) looked like an option, but now it would seem UFC officials have settled on a matchup with Hendo, with the weight class now the only thing left to be decided, after Ariel confirmed that both men had verbally agreed to the bout.
The fight is currently expected to take place at UFC Fight Night 32 which is pencilled in for November 9th, at the Goiânia Arena in Goiânia, Brazil. The pair first met back in 2006 at the Pride 32 event, Vitor lost the bout via unanimous decision and later tested positive for a banned substance, 4-Hydroxytestosterone. This is something that many have speculated may have led to Vitor now requiring TRT, something he’s often been criticised for.
Belfort has won four of his five previous fights and is currently riding a two-fight winning streak in the UFC, recording spectacular finishes, that later earned ‘Knockout of the Night’ over Michael Bisping (24-5) and Luke Rockhold (10-2).
Henderson is currently on a two-fight losing streak, after suffering narrow split decision losses to both Lyoto Machida (19-4) and Rashad Evans (18-3-1). Prior to the split-decision losses, Henderson recorded a unanimous decision victory over Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua (21-8) in a bout that not only won ‘Fight of the Night’ honours, but was also voted 2011’s ‘Fight of the Year’.
