Less than forty-eight hours had passed since Jessica Eye (10-1, pictured) signed with the UFC, and it would appear she now has her first fight booked, after ‘Evil Eye’ confirmed that she will meet Sarah Kaufman (16-2) at UFC 166, in their promotional debuts. Eye confirmed the news on MMA DieHards Radio
Kaufman has been looking for a new opponent after a bout with Sara McMann (7-0) was scrapped when McMann was forced to withdraw, due to reasons unknown. She’ll now have the opportunity to showcase her skills for the first time in front of UFC fans, when she takes on her fellow newcomer at the October event.
Regarding the upcoming bout, Jessica Eye said,
“Me and Sarah are going to match up well. I’m not sure what she knows about me, that really doesn’t matter, that’s neither here nor there, but I’m excited to fight her. She’s a well-established woman as well as a professional fighter. This is what I’m at this level to do.”
Eye goes into the bout on a seven-fight winning streak where she will move up a weight-class to the bantamweight division, having previously competed as a flyweight. Eye holds notable victories over the likes of Carina Damm (18-10), Zoila Gurgel (12-3) and Angela Magana (11-5).
Twenty-seven year old Sarah Kaufman is already a veteran of the sport having made her debut over seven years ago in June, 2006. Kaufman is a former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion and holds victories over Alexis Davis (14-5), Liz Carmouche (9-3)) and Miesha Tate (13-4). Her only defeats have come in title fights, to Marloes Coenen (21-6), where she lost her Strikeforce title, and to Ronda Rousey (7-), where she unsuccessfully attempted to regain it.
UFC 166 takes place on October 16th, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. You can check out the updated card below.
