Former UFC heavyweight Cheick Kongo (18-8-2, pictured left) has now been scheduled for this first appearance inside the Bellator cage, with the recent announcement that he will take on Mark Godbeer (8-1) at Bellator 101, on September 27th at the The Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.

The bout will serve as the headline fight of the evening and although unconfirmed at this time is expected to be part of Bellator’s Season 9 heavyweight tournament.

Kongo will make his first appearance outside the UFC since December, 2005. During his run with the promotion Kongo compiled a 11-6-1 record, defeating the likes of Mirko Cro Cop (28-10-2 (1nc)), Pat Barry (8-6) and Shawn Jordan (15-4). The French native left the UFC after the two parties failed to agree on a new contract following his knockout loss to Roy Nelson (19-8) at UFC 159 in April, 2013.

Godbeer returns to the action for the first time in over a year, with his most recent outing coming at BAMMA 9 in March, 2012, where he defeated Catalin  Zmarandescu (6-4) via TKO. Hailing from Somerset, England, Godbeer has compiled eight victories during his professional career, with all of them coming by way of stoppage, including six (T)KO’s.
